Oblix Restaurant and Summit Towering High...

On the 32nd floor of the Shard, the panoramic views across the London skyline, Rainer Becker's Oblix provides a contemporary, sophisticated and yet relaxed environment to take in the world…

Oblix Restaurant

Oblix is yet another top fine dining restaurant to add to the Summit Design portfolio and after its launch, according to Rainer Becker, exceeded all expectations.

Summit Design was pleased to win the tender and delivered the full mechanical installation, once again, with partner in construction, Phelan Construction being the main contractor.

Unlike the majority of the mechanical works carried out by Summit, Oblix was pre-designed with only the special challenges associated with working on the 32nd floor of the Shard building with which to contend.

With the Shard standing approximately 306 metres (1,004 ft) high and when built, the tallest building in the European Union, the glass-clad pyramidal tower provides 72 habitable floors, with the UK’s highest viewing gallery and open-air observation deck – on its 72nd floor, at a height of 244.3 metres (802 ft). The Oblix Restaurant is located on the 31st and 32nd floor, also delivering stunning views of the world’s greatest capital.

Oblix at the Shard was the latest from the Rainer Becker/Arjun Waney partnership, also proud owners of Zuma and Roka - that brought with it extensive associations with Dover Street Arts Club and La Petite Maison and Coya Mayfair, also part of the Summit Design portfolio.

At Oblix, Summit Design’s mechanical installation was based on chilled water and low pressure hot water circuits installed as part of the base build, together with a clever plate heat exchanger arrangement reconfigured to provide finite control over the internal temperatures and copious quantities of hot water.

From the success of the Oblix installation Summit Design were awarded the Mechanical/Electrical Design and Build Installation of what was the newest in the Becker/Waney portfolio in Mayfair.

With its interactive Sommelier station, which was the first of its kind in London, to spit roast, charcoal grill and wood fired oven, the whole experience at Oblix is certainly something one can share intimately or with friends for daytime or evening, from brunches with champagne to lunch or dinner – finished perfectly by the Rainer Becker dedication to quality, precision and consistency at all times, again, something which Summit Design can be proud to have once again played a significant part.
